The vessels and watercraft that marine surveyors typically inspect include boats, dredges, ships and tankers. They check components or features such as tailshafts, propellers, rudders, sea valves, hatchways, ventilators and cargo space to determine safe operating standards, the safety of people riding in the vessel, and repairs necessary to meet insurance requirements. After inspection is concluded, they draw up a report on their findings--including recommended actions and repairs--for submission to the client.
